Tree planting day

On Monday, 21st April, we were delighted that a large group of parents and children were able to join us in taking part in the United Nations Environment Programme ‘Plant for the Planet: Billion Trees Campaign’.
A company called Bayergarden has, as part of this project, pledged £10,000 to sponsor tree planting in schools in the UK and generously gave the school £600 worth of trees. The trees came from Poplars Garden Centre in Toddington, who were very helpful indeed and kindly donated some wild rose bushes and a stainless steel spade to the school. The response to this project was overwhelming as we had 38 parents and grandparents volunteering to help their children, who were allowed out of class to help with the planting of the trees.
It was a very successful day, the weather was kind to us and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, although there were probably a few aching bones the next day! Everyone worked so hard and with so much enthusiasm and we managed to get all the trees planted. The local newspaper and a photographer from Bayergarden took photographs to mark the occasion.
Mrs Collis, Mrs Perrin and Mrs Turner were really impressed by everyone’s efforts and really enjoyed working with the children and parents. Several parents expressed interest in doing some more work in the school grounds. There is always so much to do and we would really appreciate parents becoming more involved. Please speak to Mrs Collis if you can spare an hour or so.
