Art

 

Intent:

Our whole school motto is ‘Valuing the individual and celebrating achievement’ which reflects our core intent that every child should be valued and given the best opportunity to succeed. Our school’s vision of CARE drives our intent in art in the following ways 

  • Being Articulate enables children to speak about and share with others their opinions about different artists, skills they have learnt and what they enjoy about our art curriculum. 
  • Being Resilient enables children to achieve in art, they are given opportunities to try out different techniques, practice and perfect different artistic skills and be ready to try something again if it doesn't work out quite right. 
  • Being Curious enables children to find out more about different artists, fact find and ask questions about why someone may have created art work in a certain style. 
  • Enjoyment is a key ingredient to our art lessons and we provide children with the opportunities to work together to provide rich and memorable experiences that children will treasure forever.

Computing

 

Intent:

In Computing at Crawley Green Infant School, we strive to develop knowledgeable and confident digital citizens.  

We aim to develop computational thinking to improve problem solving skills to enable children to become more resilient and independent when interacting with technology.  We aim for our children to become safe and discerning users of the internet and be curious of the information they come across online. They will be able to articulate how they use technology purposefully and safely as well as explain how to stay safe online and why this is important.  Children will enjoy learning in computing and through engaging and exciting lessons using relevant and true-to-life software, this will cross-curricular whenever possible and prepare children for using technology in the real world now and in the future..

Design and Technology

 

Intent

Our whole school motto is ‘Valuing the individual and celebrating achievement’ which reflects our core intent that every child should be valued and given the best opportunity to succeed. Our school’s vision of CARE drives our intent in Design and Technology  in the following ways 

  • Being Curious enables children to safely explore a variety of materials and tools, fact find and ask questions about why a product has been designed in a particular way.  
  • Being Articulate enables children to speak about and develop their design ideas, share their creations with others and communicate what they enjoy about our DT curriculum. 
  • Being Resilient enables children to achieve in DT, they are given opportunities to choose and use different finishing techniques,  evaluate their prototypes and finished products and be ready to adapt to improve their creations.
  • Enjoyment is a key ingredient to our DT lessons and we provide children with the opportunities to work together to provide rich and memorable experiences that children will treasure forever.

English:

 

Writing

Our whole school motto is ‘Valuing the individual and celebrating achievement’ which reflects our core intent that every child should be valued and given the best opportunity to succeed. Being Articulate enables children to speak about and share with others what they have learnt in this subject. Being Resilient enables children to achieve in this subject. Being Curious enables children to find out about new things and discover new interests. We also want children to Enjoy their learning as we know that children learn best when feeling safe, confident and happy.  Our school’s vision of CARE drives our intent.

 

Specifically, in this subject we aim to:

  • Motivate the children to see themselves as authors and writers
  • Ensure all children have a rich, wide and varied vocabulary and are motivated to use this in their writing
  • Embed grammar terminology and understanding 
  • Expose children to a variety of genres using high quality texts as a stimulus
  • Develop an understanding of etymology and spelling patterns
  • Create independent learners who can respond to feedback and review and amend their own work.
  • Encourage children to appreciate the editing and redrafting process, always asking the question of how could I make my writing even better.

History and Geography

 

Intent:

Our whole school motto is ‘Valuing the individual and celebrating achievement’ which reflects our core intent that every child should be valued and given the best opportunity to succeed. Our school’s vision of CARE drives our intent in Humanities in the following ways 

  • Being Curious enables children to find out about historical artefacts and make comparisons in relation to how people lived then and now. They will also develop a curiosity about the world around them, make enquiries about what it would be like to live in a different place and ask questions about their learning.  
  • Being Articulate enables children to ask and answer questions about what has happened in the past and use technical vocabulary with confidence to describe physical and human geographic features. 
  • Being Resilient enables children to deepen their understanding of a time or place through investigating and exploring maps, artefacts and personal accounts. 
  • Enjoyment is a vital part of our Humanities lessons.  We provide children with immersive experiences to live out significant points in history. This creates memories which act as a springboard for further learning. 

 

Specifically, in this subject we aim to:

  • Know and understand significant aspects of the history of the wider world
  • Gain historical perspective by placing their growing knowledge into different contexts
  • Inspire a curiosity of the world and of the people that live in it
  • To know the geography of their local area and be aware of how this is similar and different to other parts of the world.

Maths

 

Intent

In Maths at Crawley Green, all pupils will develop a curiosity about and an excitement to learn maths. They will have the opportunity to learn from and build on their mistakes and develop the resilience and flexibility to use maths confidently, both within school and in the wider world. Teaching through a series of small, carefully sequenced steps will allow all learners to master concepts and make connections, while strongly embedded opportunities for mathematical vocabulary and reasoning language development will ensure they are able to articulate their own ideas and thinking, and share in those of others.
We strive for children to become ambitious and confident mathematicians who are fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, can reason and solve problems. We aim to develop maths fluency using a CPA approach – concrete, pictorial and abstract. We aim for children to be successful mathematicians who enjoy solving problems whilst understanding why we teach the skills that they can use in their everyday life.

Music

 

Intent:

In Music at Crawley Green, we aim to develop an enjoyment and appreciation of music through participation in a range of musical practice. Through singing songs and playing a range of musical instruments, children are taught to be curious about the way sounds are made and fused together to create music. They will be able to articulate the musical instruments they can hear in a piece of music, as well as explain the structure and organisation of music, including an early grasp of musical notation. They will perform, listen to, review and evaluate music from different composers, musicians and genres throughout history. They are also taught to be resilient and work alongside others to compose music and perform to an audience. Our children will value and appreciate music throughout their time at Crawley Green, developing a progression of skills and knowledge along the way.

Physical Education (PE)

 

Our whole school motto is ‘Valuing the individual and celebrating achievement’ which reflects our core intent that every child should be valued and given the best opportunity to succeed. Our school’s vision of CARE drives our intent in Physical Education in the following ways

  • Being Curious encourages children to think about their physical and mental fitness and about the importance of this throughout their lives.
  • Being Articulate enables children to speak about and develop their understanding of the way in which they can use their body, equipment and apparatus safely
  • Being Resilient enables children to succeed in PE, through personnel challenge and promoting self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and problem solving.
  • Make a positive impact on children’s physical health and well-being.

Enjoyment is a key factor within PE lessons, this enables children to experience a wide variety of sports and physical skills which will enhance life-long fitness and life choices.

PSHE

 

Intent

Our whole school motto is ‘Valuing the individual and celebrating achievement’ which reflects our core intent that every child should be valued and given the best opportunity to succeed, regardless of background, ability or additional needs to become the very best version of themselves. Our school’s vision of CARE drives our intent in PSHE in the following ways:

  • Being Curious enables children to acquire the confidence to question, challenge and reflect,in a respectful way. 
  • Being Articulate enables children to speak about and share with others their opinions, in a respectful way and  new vocabulary that they have learnt. 
  • Being Resilient enables children to achieve in this subject, they are given opportunities to listen and respond and show a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and are supported in playing a positive role in contributing to an ever-changing society.
  • Ensuring the children Enjoy their PSHE lessons will support them in their learning. The use of puppets and a variety of resources provide children with the opportunities to work together to provide rich and memorable experiences that children will treasure forever.

 

Specifically in PSHE we aim to support the children so that they:

  • Develop themselves intellectual, morally, socially and spiritually
  • Acquire the skills, knowledge and attributes they need to keep themselves physically and emotionally healthy and safe.

 

In line with our statement above, Jigsaw’s intent is to “hold children at its heart and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world. With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw 3-11 properly equips schools to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness , concentration and focus.”

Religious Education 

 

Intent 

 

At Crawley Green Infant School we aim for our pupils to love learning in RE through enjoyable lessons which are full of engaging, hands-on and real-life experiences, such as visiting places of worship, meeting faith leaders and experiencing real artefacts. Such experiences foster children’s curiosity in learning about different faiths and beliefs. We encourage children to ask questions about their learning, modelling to them how we respectfully enquire when learning about a different faith or belief to our own. 

Children have opportunities to articulate why festivals and religious celebrations are special to them and their communities. As we learn about different faiths, children develop the skills to speak about similarities and differences, making connections in their learning. We provide children with opportunities to build their resilience in evaluating and giving reason for their views and the connections that they have made, as well as building respect and tolerance for differing views.

Science

Specifically, in this subject we aim to:

  • develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding 
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • equip children with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future
  • nurture and develop children’s curiosity
  • provide a high quality science education that ensures children are building the foundations they need to recognize the importance of science in every aspect of daily life
  • motivate children: Through high quality teaching and based on children’s interests, teachers ensure full coverage for each year group with learning objectives linked to the National Curriculum. Children are given access through different contexts to provide a stimulating and engaging syllabus, where children build on prior learning, developing skills and knowledge alongside a love for learning. This ensures pupils overwhelmingly enjoy science and results in motivated learners.
