Intent
In Maths at Crawley Green, all pupils will develop a curiosity about and an excitement to learn maths. They will have the opportunity to learn from and build on their mistakes and develop the resilience and flexibility to use maths confidently, both within school and in the wider world. Teaching through a series of small, carefully sequenced steps will allow all learners to master concepts and make connections, while strongly embedded opportunities for mathematical vocabulary and reasoning language development will ensure they are able to articulate their own ideas and thinking, and share in those of others.
We strive for children to become ambitious and confident mathematicians who are fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, can reason and solve problems. We aim to develop maths fluency using a CPA approach – concrete, pictorial and abstract. We aim for children to be successful mathematicians who enjoy solving problems whilst understanding why we teach the skills that they can use in their everyday life.
Music
Intent:
In Music at Crawley Green, we aim to develop an enjoyment and appreciation of music through participation in a range of musical practice. Through singing songs and playing a range of musical instruments, children are taught to be curious about the way sounds are made and fused together to create music. They will be able to articulate the musical instruments they can hear in a piece of music, as well as explain the structure and organisation of music, including an early grasp of musical notation. They will perform, listen to, review and evaluate music from different composers, musicians and genres throughout history. They are also taught to be resilient and work alongside others to compose music and perform to an audience. Our children will value and appreciate music throughout their time at Crawley Green, developing a progression of skills and knowledge along the way.

Religious Education
Intent
At Crawley Green Infant School we aim for our pupils to love learning in RE through enjoyable lessons which are full of engaging, hands-on and real-life experiences, such as visiting places of worship, meeting faith leaders and experiencing real artefacts. Such experiences foster children’s curiosity in learning about different faiths and beliefs. We encourage children to ask questions about their learning, modelling to them how we respectfully enquire when learning about a different faith or belief to our own.
Children have opportunities to articulate why festivals and religious celebrations are special to them and their communities. As we learn about different faiths, children develop the skills to speak about similarities and differences, making connections in their learning. We provide children with opportunities to build their resilience in evaluating and giving reason for their views and the connections that they have made, as well as building respect and tolerance for differing views.
